A lot of people use FL Studio with another DAW as a host, which gives you the best of both worlds. To elaborate on that, FL Studio isn't the greatest for production it is great for composition and arrangement, though. Look into TAL vsts (Noisemaker, reverb, filter 2, and others are excellent), grab a few (free) others, and you're up and running, especially with what you have built into your DAW. A velocity sensitive MIDI keyboard is also an invaluable tool, especially in that genre.Īs far as plugins and synths go, you really can go a very long way with things you can get for free. It's preferable to have both, and have an interface that supports midi. If you want to get serious, you'll need an audio interface at the very least, and headphones + monitors would be nice.
